Maine Advocates Travel to Washington D.C. For Financial Empowerment Symposium

On July 22, MCEDV staff member Margo Batsie, along with Sharon Lewis from Safe Voices and Hannah Ives from New Hope for Women, traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the 2014 Financial Empowerment Symposium.  In its 10th year, the Symposium is a joint effort hosted by the National Network to End Domestic Violence and the Allstate Foundation.  
 
Vicky Dinges, Senior Vice President for Allstate Insurance Company said, "We know financial control is often an abuser's invisible weapon of choice.  That's why we believe financial resources and long-term financial stability are keys to breaking the cycle of domestic violence across our nation."
 
Over the course of the two days conference advocates attended sessions on promising practices on Economic Justice and domestic violence.
