Meet The Liberation Collection: Giving Survivors a Second Chance
Most don’t realize the financial burden of leaving an abusive environment or how much is needed just to escape safely. MCEDV’s Liberation Fund has collaborated with Sea Bags of Maine to create the Liberation Collection, where proceeds of every purchase will help cover costs towards rebuilding a safe new life for domestic abuse survivors in Maine.
Every year, over 14,000 people in Maine experience domestic abuse, while 73% remain in abusive situations due to financial control. To help alleviate this burden, the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence (MCEDV) established the Liberation Fund in 2020 to provide emergency financial assistance. Since its founding, the fund has distributed over $675,000 to cover essential expenses for survivors.
In honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, MCEDV has partnered with Sea Bags to create the Liberation Collection. The limited-edition tote and cosmetic case are made from retired sails, and thirty-five percent of proceeds will benefit MCEDV’s Liberation Fund.
“Survivors don’t just need shelter, they need resources to rebuild economically independent lives. This collaboration with Sea Bags helps make those resources tangible. When you buy or gift a Liberation tote or cosmetic case, you’re funding someone’s path to safety.” says Francine Garland Stark, Executive Director of MCEDV.
Liberation Collection Details
The Liberation Tote ($250) and Liberation Cosmetic Case ($95), with one side featuring a beautiful fiddlehead, a coiled young fern that emerges each spring, and the other showing it fully open, reflecting growth and healing after even the longest winters.
Like a fern unfurling after protecting itself through hardship, domestic violence survivors move from self-protection toward openness, independence, and renewal. The Liberation Collection symbolizes that journey with the same elegance and durability Sea Bags is known for. Every piece honors survivors’ resilience while supporting MCEDV’s work to help them rebuild again safely.
